We recorded the latest edition of Focus on the Family with Jim Daly in a different kind of studio. Instead of microphones and recording consoles, we were surrounded by more easels, paint brushes, and canvases in one place than I’ve ever seen.
The studio belongs to Morgan Weistling, who has been an artist since he was old enough to hold a crayon. He has studied under some of the most legendary illustrators and artists of the last century. Morgan also worked in Hollywood for 14 years, creating movie posters and collectable artwork. In 1998, he transitioned to the world of fine art and has become a premier, award-winning painter, most often depicting scenes about families in early American life.
All of that is background to the more incredible story we talked to Morgan about: his journey to Christ. I’ll let him tell the whole story, but I’m pleased to say that Focus has been a part of his journey from the beginning.
Morgan’s most recent relationship with Focus on the Family is to continue the great tradition originally started by the late G. Harvey who, before he died in 2017, produced special paintings for us and allowed us to offer prints to our constituents.
This year’s painting by Morgan is called “Kissed by God.” The painting captures Jesus as a child in a tender moment with his mother Mary. The beautiful and moving depiction reflects God’s love for all of us. “In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins” (1 John 4:10).
We hope you’ll join us for our conversation with Morgan as he shares with you his passion for serving the Lord through art. You can hear the full program on your local radio station, online, on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or listen on our free phone app.
We’d also like to offer you an opportunity to purchase a print of Morgan’s painting “Kissed by God.” For more information, click here or give us a call at 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459).
