Quality Customer Service

Mom and dad, you may not think of your household as a business, but it’s true. You are the CEO of a mini empire. It’s your job to provide structure and order – like paying bills and doing laundry – but it’s also your responsibility to create a home where your spouse and children can thrive – spiritually, emotionally, and relationally. How do you do that? The same way you run a traditional business. You put your customers first.

Starbucks, the world’s largest coffeehouse chain, sells over 120 billion dollars’ worth of coffee every year. And yet, their key to success has almost nothing to do with coffee. They foster a culture of warmth and belonging where everyone is welcome. They even identify their customers by name.

Amazon takes a similar approach. When Jeff Bezos, the founder and executive chairman, was asked how Amazon went from garage startup to trillion dollar company, he said, “Our obsession with customer service.”

If we see our family as customers, we’ll treat them like they’re the most important people in the world when we’re with them. We’ll put aside our phone, block out distractions, and give them our undivided attention. Even our body language will communicate how important they are to us.

Take it from two of the biggest companies in the world: The key to success – whether in your business or in your home – is quality customer service.
